Will social media spell the end of “lame stereotypes” in advertising? This TED Talk by Johanna Blakely raises several interesting points on this topic. As social media continues to dominate traditional media, this concept is something I have never really thought about before. Are the demographics that we use far too narrow-minded and are we forcing people in boxes which they may not necessarily fit into?
Reading the 200+ comments this video has accumulated in a couple of days (some are well worthy of reading, whilst obviously others are only worthy of an eye-roll) gives the impression that the gender argument is still well and truly alive.
And isn’t it ironic that the debate is taking place in the form of anonymous comments on the internet? Interesting stuff…
